AXS Super BOOM
Debris Removal & Oil Spill Containment
A tested physical marine barrier that stops oil and debris from passing through it and isolates them for skimming or removal.

Debris Removal & Oil Spill Containment
Oil & debris isolation
Oil and debris are isolated for skimming or removal.
Water flow
Water continues to pass through the AXS barrier.
Engineered configuration
Depth, layers and connections follow the site conditions.
Foldable storage
The barrier folds downward and sideways before deployment.
Debris collection and oil spill containment.
Oil and debris remain on the containment side of the barrier. Water continues to pass through the AXS structure.

Stored folded. Fitted immediately before deployment.
The AXS Super BOOM barrier is stored in a compact folded configuration. The top floaters, polypropylene (PP) ropes and bottom weights are kept separately alongside it, ready to be fitted immediately before deployment.
The barrier folds downward and sideways for storage and transport. Its depth, length and number of AXS layers remain configured for the engineering requirements of the application.

Depth is a functional design parameter.
Oil and debris are isolated for skimming or removal while water continues to pass through the barrier. For that reason, the depth of the AXS Super BOOM is critical.
The barrier must extend sufficiently below the surface to intercept oil and debris under the actual current, wave and tidal conditions of the installation or incident.
The Super BOOM is engineered in depth as well as length.
Large in service.
Compact before deployment.
Regardless of the overall size of the AXS Super BOOM or the number of AXS layers used, the barrier is designed to fold both downward and sideways for compact storage and transport.
The main AXS barrier remains foldable until deployment. The upper flotation attachments and lower weight/control attachments are fitted immediately before deployment.
Large polypropylene mesh sheets enclose the AXS layers, with double-stitched seams between the horizontal compartments. The support and tension rope is separate from the top floaters.
Sections connect to form the required containment length.
Adjacent AXS Super BOOM sections are joined through engineered vertical interlocks so the containment line can be built to the required operating length.
Connection strength and spacing follow the engineering requirements of the installation.
Fold downward
Horizontal sections collapse through the boom depth for compact handling.
Fold sideways
The barrier folds along its length for storage and transport.
Attach at deployment
Upper and lower attachments are fitted immediately before the boom enters service.
Successful Containment Starts with Better Design

Tide changes geometry
Rising and falling water levels can alter boom angle, tension, anchoring and effective barrier depth.
Current can drive oil under
As current increases, surface oil can be pushed beneath a shallow containment line.
Waves can overtop
Wave motion can carry hydrocarbons over the boom and increase mechanical stress on sections and connections.
Debris adds drag
Floating debris can accumulate against the boom, distort its shape and increase loads on anchoring and connections.
Deployment takes time
Large boom systems can require multiple people, support vessels, storage space and a workable weather window.
Connections become critical
Long containment lines depend on repeated section connections that must remain stable while towing, turning and under wave load.
Stop the oil and debris.
Keep the water moving.

The water environment remains open.
The AXS aluminium is contained within protective wrappers. The engineered pore structure allows water to pass through while oil and floating debris are retained for recovery.
The AXS material remains enclosed within the protective wrappers.
Oil and debris are isolated for skimming or removal. Water continues to pass through the barrier.
How the marine environment determines the AXS Super BOOM configuration.
AXS Super BOOM is engineered according to the operating conditions of each application.
Site Conditions
Engineering Assessment
The operating conditions are translated into the required AXS Super BOOM geometry, structure and deployment configuration.
Resulting Boom Configuration
AXS Super BOOM is not a one-size-fits-all boom. It is an engineered AXS barrier configured for the actual marine environment.
Emergency response or permanent protection.
Between two rescue boats
Deploy the boom between response vessels to establish an interception or containment line.
Carried aboard
Folded sections can be carried aboard rescue or response vessels for rapid deployment.
Permanent offshore installation
A permanent configuration can be engineered around offshore platforms, marine terminals or other fixed assets.
Alternative rapid-deployment method
Steel cord with buoyant poles and closely spaced AXS bags, deployed between two rescue boats.

Engineer the Super BOOM for the actual marine environment.
AXS configures depth, layers, sections, flotation, lower control, anchoring and deployment around the site and operating conditions.
